Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is an artistic icon of the South Island and an established force in orchestral music within New Zealand.

Established in 1958 through the vision of Professor John Ritchie, CSO has an established core of principal players.

 

spacer-gif CSO performs in over fifty concerts a year including performances for the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Southern Opera, Christchurch City Council events, National Concerto Competition® and the International Adam Cello Festival & Competition.

CSO subscription season presents a wide range of classical, pops and contemporary musical styles through its series: Lamb and Hayward Masterworks Series, AMI Insurance Proms Series, CSO Presents and Cathedral Series.

Through the Outreach and Education programme, CSO works to enrich and educate communities including primary and secondary schools throughout the entire South Island.  In 2008 this programme reached 26,850 young people.

In all its activities CSO continually strives for artistic excellence and is committed to offering the best in performances, conductors and artists to its community.
