Brett’s performance career began at a very young age with improvised performances on his high chair. Tuition in New Zealand and Scotland expanded Brett’s interests to more traditional percussion instruments, but the world percussion group Pandemonium (and even the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra) still provide Brett with opportunities to perform on “recycled” instruments more commonly used such as kitchen sinks, rubbish bins, car parts and the like.
Brett has performed with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra since 1987, though contracts with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra limited CSO involvement between 1988 and 1994. Other musical endeavours with rock, Latin, jazz, show, brass, bicycle and Scottish pipe bands have led to performances in Australia, Hawaii, Hong Kong and Japan, as well as throughout New Zealand.
In his spare time Brett has completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Management Science and a PhD in Natural Resources Engineering. He currently indulges this passion through employment on the Canterbury Water Management Strategy team at Environment Canterbury.Proudly Sponsored by: Syndicate - Tim Harding; James Baines & Brigid Buckenham; Lorna Leonard
