Sub Principal Percussion

Jeremy Thin

Jeremy grew up in Christchurch surrounded by music, thanks to the influence of two music-teacher parents. Early lessons at home on piano were soon augmented by percussion lessons with former CSO Principal Percussion Tom Williams, and later, current principal Brett Painter.

Jeremy has performed with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra since 1997. He studied at the University of Canterbury, gaining degrees in History and Performance Percussion, the latter under Matthew Clayton and CSO Principal Timpani Mark la Roche. Jeremy currently performs with world music groups Pandemonium, Mundi and Wontanara, and has also appeared with Southern Sinfonia, New Zealand National Youth Orchestra, the Court Theatre, Showbiz Christchurch and Woolston Brass.

Jeremy has taught percussion and piano, and conducted orchestras and ensembles from primary to tertiary level around Christchurch, as well as working as a freelance historian and heritage researcher. As well as performing, he currently teaches music and history at Rangi Ruru Girls' School.
