Mark La Roche

Mark has been the Principal Timpanist with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra since 1998. From 1988 – 1998 Mark was an associate Percussionist and Timpanist with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. 

After completing B.Mus and B.A. degrees from the University of Auckland and a Dip.Tch from the Auckland College of Education, Mark undertook postgraduate study at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Paul Yancich, Principal Timpanist with the Cleveland Orchestra. 

Mark is an enthusiastic educator, having been active in the CSO Community Engagement Programme since its inception, and teaches at a number of Christchurch Secondary Schools.

Since 2009, Mark has been Manager of the Gisborne International Music Competition. He is a triathlon-enthusiast and has raced in Ironman and 70.3 events in New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii and Europe.
