Thursday 14th May

TuneUp Online

We’re delighted to announce that, due to the success of the first series TuneUp Online, we are now introducing three more sessions.

These are a series of interactive music workshops conducted by musicians of the CSO and each workshop has its own special area of focus. Plus, you don’t have to be a virtuoso to be part of any of the classes.

All classes are run using the Zoom platform and links to each session can be accessed via our website.

Whilst there are limited places for active participation you will also get a lot out of these workshops by being an observer and we warmly encourage you to join us.

Mini Musos

Wednesday, 20 May, 5-6pm

Sarah McCracken - Assistant Concertmaster
Jennifer Johnson - Oboe
Helen Webby - Principal Harp
Pablo Ruiz Henao - Principal Bass Trombone

Do you have a virtuoso in the making living in your house?  We would love to hear your mini-muso!  We are inviting young musicians 12 years and under to show us what they can do on their orchestral instrument by playing an excerpt of up to 16 bars from something they enjoy playing. Our panel of four friendly faces from the CSO will give them positive feedback and helpful hints to take their playing to the next level. Inspiration guaranteed!

Apply to participate by noon Monday 18 May. Places may be limited and successful applicants will be notified by 5pm.

Observers are very welcome.

Your Turn to Shine 2 - Weekend Warriors take to the Stage

Wednesday 3 June, 5-6pm

Anthony Ferner - Principal Flute
Serenity Thurlow - Principal Viola

After the success of our last class for keen adult players we welcome you back for a second forum with Principal Viola Serenity Thurlow, Principal Flute Tony Ferner and hosted by Principal Bassoon Selena Orwin.

If you’ve been practicing diligently during lockdown and all you lack is an audience, or you’d like some feedback because you can’t access your usual mentor, we are here to help!

Treat two of our friendly CSO players to a few bars of your favourite piece and they will offer you some pointers and encouraging feedback.  Take the opportunity to ask them your burning questions about all things musical.

The CSO is very fortunate with the generous support we receive from many organisations and individuals.  We have a very dedicated group of patrons who specifically invest in our musicians through our Player Partnership Programme. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them and  in particular acknowledge Mark Hickman and Doris Barnard ,Christopher Marshall , Andrew & Wendy Oh,  Dame Adrienne Stewart DNZM, QSM, LittD (Hon), Hon Philip & Mrs Ros Burdon, and members of the Principal French Horn and Principal Oboe Syndicates who support the Players involved in Tune Up Online. We would also like to thank the CSO Foundation for their support of our Community Engagement Programme.
