For more than sixty years, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra has played an integral role in the rhythm and cultural fabric of Christchurch and its wider community. During that time, we have reached many thousands of people through our music.
In 2020, we will be presenting a varied concert season of more than 20 self-presented performances.
Beyond the concert stage, our Community Engagement Programme reaches more than 35,000 people through over 90 different initiatives, including rest home visits and school residencies. Many of our players are also teachers in the wider community, spreading their knowledge, passion, and dedication to others around them at all levels of teaching, including primary, intermediate, secondary, and tertiary, as well as leading and co-ordinating a variety of community groups for all ages and abilities.
At the heart of the CSO lies a commitment to ensuring that people of all ages and walks of life have the opportunity to experience live instrumental music.
The on-going success of the orchestra couldn’t happen without the generosity of our community of supporters to whom we are extremely grateful. Your support enables us to continue to provide Canterbury and its surrounds with dynamic musical performances, internationally acclaimed soloists and conductors, and the Community Engagement programme.
Our activities are supported by both government funding and a family of patrons and sponsors to whom we are very grateful. However, that is still not enough to sustain the level of engagement that we have with Christchurch and its wider community. Please help us continue to spread music throughout our community by donating. Every little bit helps.
